College Basketball : DeLaveaga Scores 41; CLU Wins

Senior guard Steve deLaveaga scored 41 points to set a single-game tournament scoring record and lead Cal Lutheran to a 107-77 victory Saturday night over San Jose Bible College in the consolation championship of the Triton Tip-Off tournament at UC San Diego.

DeLaveaga, Cal Lutheran’s career scoring leader, made 14 of 16 field-goal attempts, including 7 of 8 from 3-point range, and did not miss a free throw in 6 attempts. He also set a 2-game tournament scoring record with 67 points and was the only Kingsman named to the all-tournament team.

Guard Jeff Logsdon added 11 points and 5 assists to help Cal Lutheran in the four-team tournament. The Kingsmen (3-2) shot 59.4% from the field and made 13 of 21 free throws (62%).

Cal Lutheran plays host to La Verne on Tuesday.

WOMEN

CS Northridge 80, Abilene Christian 71--Chris Cavalin scored a team-high 22 points as the Lady Matadors rallied from an early 21-12 deficit to take a 44-39 halftime lead en route to a nonconference victory at Northridge.

Cavalin also led Northridge rebounders with 16. Julie Arlotto added 17 points and 11 rebounds and Bridgette Ealy had 17 points for Northridge.

The Lady Matadors (3-1) converted 27 of 61 field-goal attempts (44.3%) and 83.9% from the line, including 22 of 26 free throws in the second half.

Valley 70, Mira Costa 60--Sandrine Rocher came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points and grab 8 rebounds in leading Valley in a nonconference game at home.

Rocher, a 5-10 freshman from North Hollywood High, was 8 of 15 from the field and scored 12 points in the second half.

Ruth Aguilar added 13 off the bench for Valley (4-2) and starting forward Shagarro Lattin had 11.

Marrianne Hughes led Mira Costa (4-2) with 29 points.

Augustana (Ill.) 83, Occidental 53--Senior center Joelle Orton scored a team-high 16 points and had 10 rebounds and Kelly Stephenson added 12 points and 5 assists for Occidental in a nonconference game at home.

Jenevieve Wilkinson added 9 points and 6 assists for Occidental (0-3).
