After Loss to Biola, Toro Cagers Try to Rebound vs. Howard

Share

The Cal State Dominguez Hills men’s basketball team attempts to rebound from a 69-67 double-overtime loss to Biola University when it hosts Howard University at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The Toros (0-1) led Biola by as many as 14 points in the second half of the championship game of the Cal Poly Pomona Tournament on Nov. 19, but couldn’t hold on. Dominguez Hills has not played since.

Howard, a Division 1 team, has a roster that includes six sophomores and five freshmen. Last year Howard was 16-13 overall and finished fourth in the Mideastern Athletic Conference.

Dominguez Hills opened the season and the Pomona Tournament with a convincing 91-69 win over the University of Manitoba. The win and the statistics from that game are not allowed under NCAA rules, however, because Manitoba is in Canada and the game is considered an exhibition.

Senior forward Anthony Blackmon, an all-tournament selection, scored 37 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the 2 games. Junior forward Kenyatta Kalisana made 8 of 9 field goal tries and freshman forward Marty Ward had 7 rebounds off the bench.

Dominguez Hills makes its first road trip of the year at San Francisco State on Friday night and at Sonoma State on Saturday night.

The Dominguez Hills women’s team is at a tournament at Chico State on Friday.
