Santa Ana’s Perez Will Defend Title in Irvine Tonight
Tomas Perez of Santa Ana will defend his California super-welterweight title against Toby Flores tonight in the main event of the monthly boxing card at the Irvine Marriott.
Perez (19-3), who is from Cuba, has won four consecutive fights in Irvine and won the title with a unanimous 12-round decision over Kenny Lopez in August.
Flores, of Stockton, has a 21-2 record and is considered an outstanding boxing prospect in Northern California.
Johnny Tapia of Albuquerque will fight in the 8-round semi-main event against San Diego’s Simon Contreras.
The first of seven scheduled fights starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale today at 10 a.m. in the hotel’s grand ballroom.
