A brush fire on the Rincon Indian Reservation continued to burn Friday, having consumed 400 acres and injuring one firefighter.

The fire, which began Thursday night, was expected to be controlled early this morning, the California Department of Forestry said.

The blaze began in a private dump east of Valley Center Road near the reservation’s bingo hall.

By Friday, more than 500 firefighters from San Diego, Escondido, Santee, Lakeside, El Cajon, La Mesa and Lemon Grove were helping forestry firefighters battle the blaze. One firefighter was taken to a hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Valley Center Road, north of Lake Wohlford, was closed to give fire equipment access to the area, officials said.
