Rancho Santiago 17, Moorpark 10--Paul Peters returned a punt 84 yards for the winning touchdown with 1:37 left in the opener of the PONY Bowl doubleheader at Orange Coast College.
Rancho Santiago (7-3-1), making its first appearance in a bowl game in 23 years, had tied the score at 10-10 with 3:16 remaining on Tim Snitko’s 45-yard field goal.
Peters, a freshman wide receiver, scored the Dons’ other touchdown, catching a 40-yard pass from Scott Wood in the third quarter.
Moorpark (9-2), the State’s best defensive team, limited Rancho Santiago to 7 yards rushing, but the Dons passed for 311.
