Golden West Wins State Volleyball Title

Golden West College defeated De Anza Sunday to capture the state women’s volleyball championship at San Jose City College.

Jackie Cook had 18 kills and Sabrina Dennis 16 as the Rustlers won, 8-15, 15-6, 15-13, 15-13. It was the 23rd consecutive victory for Golden West.

The Rustlers (24-1) swept Santa Rosa, 15-8, 15-8, 16-14, in the winners’ bracket final. Dannie Doll had 10 kills and Maureen Flannagan 8 for Golden West.

Dennis was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Cook and Jennifer Noonan were named to the all-tournament team.
