Local News in Brief : Douglas and Disney May Build Monorail
Six development firms, including a division of McDonnell Douglas Corp. and Walt Disney Co., will meet next week to discuss the feasibility of building a monorail to connect their downtown Long Beach office, hotel and tourism projects with the new Los Angeles-Long Beach light rail line and the Queen Mary.
Robert Young, president of McDonnell Douglas Realty Co., said a monorail would most likely be privately financed. He said his firm, in conjunction with another developer, already has funds for a half-mile monorail segment that could run from the light rail terminal to a planned 35-story office tower on West Ocean Boulevard.
