Glasson-Clampett Hold 1-Shot Lead
Bobby Clampett and Bill Glasson combined for a 9-under-par 63 Friday to hold their one-stroke lead after 2 rounds of the $600,000 PGA Chrysler Team Championship.
Glasson birdied the final hole to put his team at at 21-under-par 123 in the best-ball event.
Jim Rutledge and Mike Smith were second after shooting a 60 for a 124 total.
Rutledge, 29, a Canadian who has played on the PGA Tour infrequently in past years, and Smith, also an on-and-off tour player, failed to qualify at last week’s PGA school and are participating on a sponsor’s exemption.
“I started with birdies at the first 2 holes and was a cheerleader (for Rutledge) after that,” Smith said.
Rutledge, who played on the European PGA Tour this year, as did Smith, had 10 birdies as they came from 4 strokes back to lead by a stroke with Clampett and Glasson still 3 holes from the finish.
