Sweetwater 84, Mira Mesa 71--Junior center Joe McDowell of Sweetwater was named the most valuable player after the championship game victory.

The second quarter was the key to Sweetwater’s fourth straight victory as the Red Devils outscored Mira Mesa, 20-7. McDowell paced Sweetwater with 28 points, and Cortez Rice added 15. Mark Ziegler and J.J. Rowlett combined for 35 of Mira Mesa’s points.

Rowlett and Carlos Campbell of Sweetwater also made the all-tournament team.

Kearny 64, Hilltop 51--Tom Rawlins, the county’s sixth leading passer in football, scored a game-high 14 points to lead Kearny in the Hilltop Tournament. Kearny led 28-21 at halftime and 41-29 at the end of the third quarter. Junior forward Josh Wenning of Hilltop was named the most inspirational player.

Chula Vista 62, Hoover 42--Back-to-back 21 point quarters put Chula Vista on top. Trenell Hicks led the Spartans with 12 points. Roger Blake led Hoover with 15. Sean Desmond added two 3-point shots for Chula Vista.

La Jolla 65, Point Loma 53--With 20 points, all-tournament pick Jimmy Griffin led Point Loma in defeat. La Jolla received 15-point efforts from all-tournament selections David Berteaux and Adam Clyde, a senior forward who made the all-tournament team for the third consecutive year, the first player in the tournament’s 12 years to do so. La Jolla led, 28-24, at the half.
