In Brief : Jockey’s Buzzer Eliminates Winner

CHICAGO — The winner of the sixth race at Balmoral Park was declared a nonstarter by stewards after security personnel at the park caught the jockey discarding an electrical device in the winner’s circle.
Win, place, show, quinella and trifecta bets on Chief In Charge were refunded immediately, track officials said Tuesday. Train To Glory, the runner-up in the six-furlong race for $3,500, was declared the winner.
Track officials say a videotape of Tuesday’s race showed that jockey Geary Louviere appeared to use his left hand to tuck something into his trousers after crossing the finish line. The tape appeared to show an object drop when Louviere turned his back and unbuttoned his trousers after he was confronted by security guards in the winner’s circle.
Officials said a buzzer, an illegal device used to stimulate a horse, was recovered by security personnel.
