Reds and Red Sox Make a Five-Player Trade
The Cincinnati Reds acquired outfielder-first baseman Todd Benzinger, right-handed pitcher Jeff Sellers and a player to be named from the Boston Red Sox Tuesday in a 5-player trade.
The Red Sox received left-handed reliever Rob Murphy and first baseman Nick Esasky.
Benzinger, 26, moved from the outfield to play first base for the first time last season. Benzinger, a switch-hitter, hit .254 with 13 home runs and 70 runs batted in.
Sellers, 23, has a 13-22 lifetime record and was just 1-7 in 1988.
Esasky, 28, hit .243 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs, and Murphy, 28, was 0-6 with a 3.08 earned-run average and 3 saves in 76 relief appearances.
