Toys for Tots Was Parade’s Beneficiary

Share

I was very disappointed with your Dec. 4 story on the Times Orange County Holiday Parade. Though well written, the story completely ignored the official charity of the parade--Toys for Tots.

Over the years the parade, formerly Toys on Parade, has taken great pride in its association with Toys for Tots. The Marine Corps Reserve, sponsor of Toys for Tots, is equally proud to be a part of each parade--a major event in our toy collection drive. Dozens of Marines with toy collection barrels lined the parade route, and over 100 Marines and Marine reservists marched in the parade to call attention to the Toys for Tots program.

Though The Times has the gratitude of Orange County’s Marines for its sponsorship of the parade, I am dismayed that your paper would slight this program, which benefits thousands of underprivileged children here, in your coverage of the event.

We thank those who have already donated toys and encourage others to visit their local fire station or call (714) 726-2627 to find out where the nearest collection site is.
