Local News in Brief : Bacharach Is Elected Mayor

Jacki Bacharach has been elected mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes by her council colleagues, succeeding Robert E. Ryan. Councilman John McTaggart was elected mayor pro tem.

Bacharach, a Rancho Palos Verdes resident for 20 years, has served on the council since 1980 and has been mayor twice.

McTaggart has been a member of the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council for 5 years and has served once as mayor.

In an address to the audience following her election, Bacharach said she hopes that in the coming year residents can “evaluate what kind of city we will be like in the year 2000. We need to think about the direction we want to go. We want to make sure it’s a place we all want to live.”
