An abandoned two-story house in Hillcrest was destroyed by arson about 8 p.m. Monday night, causing $150,000 in damage, San Diego Fire Department officials said.
Two transients, who were sleeping upstairs when the fire broke out on the first floor, escaped unharmed, Capt. Larry Carlson said.
Carlson said houses directly south of the building, at 3969 3rd Ave., were threatened but were not damaged.
