SPORTS : Browns’ Schottenheimer Resigns
Marty Schottenheimer quit today as coach of the Cleveland Browns, three days after his team was eliminated from the NFL playoffs.
“The Cleveland Browns and Marty Schottenheimer have reached an agreement to an amicable parting of company due to a number of irreconcilable differences regarding the Browns’ coaching philosophies, particularly the position of offensive coordinator,” owner Art Modell said in a statement. Schottenheimer has been criticized for assuming the role of offensive coordinator during the 1988 season.
