In Brief : Soviet Upset in Tennis Tournament
West German Christian Saceanu upset second-seeded Andrei Chesnokov of the Soviet Union 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 today in the first round of the $350,000 New South Wales Open.
Romanian-born Saceanu, 20, went for broke in the final set, out-slugging Chesnokov, the loser in last year’s title match.
Olivier Delaitre, a French-born resident of Belgium, also ousted Jonas Svensson of Sweden 6-2, 6-4.
Two other seeded players, No. 4 Aaron Krickstein of the United States and sixth-seeded South African Christo van Rensburg, advanced to the last 16. Top-seeded Henri Leconte of France did not play today.
