It’s not easy playing on the road in the Big Ten Conference. Just ask Iowa Coach Tom Davis.

No. 16-ranked Ohio State jumped off to a 12-0 lead and never looked back in beating No. 7 Iowa, 102-91, Thursday night at Columbus, Ohio.

The defeat was the second straight for the Hawkeyes, who lost, 90-88, at Minnesota Saturday.

Asked when he last saw a team play with the intensity of Ohio State, Davis said: “Last Saturday at Minnesota.”

Added Davis: “Ohio State was the aggressor tonight. There was a lot of shoving going on and it seemed like we were the shovee a lot.”

Ohio State was coming off a 99-73 loss at Michigan Monday night, and the Buckeyes’ Jay Burson, who had 26 points Thursday night, said that was an incentive against the Hawkeyes.

“Coach (Gary Williams) worked us hard this week,” he said. “Tonight we took the game to them. We wanted to take the ball to the basket every time. We played as well as we can.”

Jerry Francis had 20 points, Perry Carter 17 and Jamaal Brown a career-high 14 for the Buckeyes (13-4, 3-2).

B.J. Armstrong scored 23 points, and Roy Marble, James Moses and Ray Thompson had 16 apiece for the Hawkeyes (13-3, 1-2).

The Illini are 16-0 and 4-0; Northwestern fell to 7-8 and 0-5.

With top-ranked Duke’s upset loss Wednesday night, the Illini can take over the top spot in the Associated Press poll with a victory over Georgia Tech this weekend.
