Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns, who fought 8 years ago in a classic welterweight title bout, will meet June 12 at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace in a rematch for Leonard’s 168-pound title, promoter Bob Arum said.
Caesars Palace will pay $8 million to play host to the bout, according to Arum.
The promoter said Leonard’s lawyer, Mike Trainer, had not signed a contract for the fight but had “agreed in principle to everything. All we have to do is get a signed contract on the terms we agreed on.”
Leonard will be guaranteed $13 million and Hearns $11 million for the bout, which will be televised to closed-circuit locations and pay-per-view, Arum said.
