Boys’ Basketball : Curtis’ 32 Points Lead Estancia Past University

Estancia’s Mike Curtis, who led all scorers with 32 points, scored 6 points in overtime to give Estancia High School a 63-60 victory over University in a Sea View League boys’ basketball game Wednesday at University.

University’s Erik Glassen hit a 3-point shot at the end of regulation to tie the score, 54-54. But Curtis, who had a 4-point play in overtime, put the Eagles ahead for good. Curtis was fouled as he sank a 3-point shot and converted the free throw. Augustin Heredia added 10 points for Estancia (17-2, 4-1). Glassen scored 20 points for University (7-12, 2-3). Teammate Pat Ferrell added 12 points, Stephan Mumaw 11 and Junior Oliver 10.

In other Sea View League games:

Saddleback 69, Newport Harbor 46--Malru Dottin scored 19 points to lead Saddleback (19-1, 5-0) at Newport Harbor. The Roadrunners led, 17-12, at the end of the first quarter, then outscored the Sailors, 21-9, to take a 38-21 halftime lead. Craig Marshall scored 11 points and Sean Simon 10 for Saddleback. Chris Lee and Craig DeBusk each scored 12 points for Newport Harbor (11-9, 0-5).

Corona del Mar 61, Tustin 51--Brian Spratt scored 15 points as host Corona del Mar (12-6, 3-2) rallied in the second half. The Sea Kings trailed, 20-15, at the end of the first quarter and 35-31 at halftime. However, Corona del Mar outscored the Tillers, 30-16, in the second half. Matt Cwiertnia scored 12 points and Jeff Jackson and Warren Johnson each scored 11 for the Sea Kings. Dillon Steiler scored 19 points for Tustin (11-9, 1-4).

In the Orange League:

Western 80, Valencia 38--Sam Sabbara scored 26 points to lead Western at Valencia.

Sabbara, a junior, also had 9 rebounds and 9 assists, just missing his second triple-double of the season.

Western (13-5, 3-2) led, 36-22, at halftime and outscored the Tigers, 44-16, in the second half.

Mike Fawver scored 14 points and Joe Romero 13 for Western.

Lou Diamond scored 9 points and Ben Herrera 8 for Valencia (6-10, 1-4).

Savanna 70, Anaheim 52--Jim Priest scored 11 of his 14 points in the second quarter as Savanna outscored Anaheim, 20-9, to lead, 38-21, at halftime. Savanna’s Mustapha Abdi led all scorers with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Teammate Tim Tillman added 21 points and 17 rebounds. Savanna is 19-1, 5-0. Walt Zambrano scored 21 points for Anaheim (7-11, 0-5).

Brea-Olinda 83, Magnolia 55--Keith Walker scored a game-high 22 points to lead visiting Brea (15-6, 4-1). Matt Chamberlain had 9 rebounds and Walker 8 for the Wildcats. Richard McKee led Magnolia (8-9, 2-3) with 12 points.
