Builder OKs Delay on Rancho P.V. Vote

Share

The developer of a proposed housing tract in the 6500 block of Palos Verdes Drive South has given Rancho Palos Verdes 90 more days to consider the project.

By state law, the city had until today to approve or reject the proposal, which calls for 50 to 60 ocean-view homes on the north side of the road. Had an extension not been offered by the developer, Watt Palos Verdes, council members had said the development would be rejected.

The council’s decision had been delayed to Tuesday pending the city attorney’s analysis of the project’s environmental impact report, which several council members think does not address grading and hydrology sufficiently. Some neighbors fear the project will trigger landslides.

City Atty. Steve Dorsey, who was not present at Tuesday night’s council meeting, told city officials that the environmental impact report needs to be revised and recirculated to the public for comment, a process that will not be completed until the end of March.

The council will continue to receive comments on the project through the 90-day extension period. The next public hearing is scheduled for Feb. 21.
