West Hollywood : AIDS Memorial Inscription
- Share via
Ronald Doeden, 31, who works as a volunteer helping people with acquired immune deficiency syndrome, has won a city-sponsored contest to choose an inscription for a planned AIDS memorial in West Hollywood.
Doeden’s suggestion, picked from among 63 entries, was, “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” The passage is from a poem by Thomas Campbell titled “Hallowed Ground.”
City officials said a plaque bearing the inscription will be placed in a small grove of trees planned as an AIDS memorial in the soon-to-be-developed William S. Hart Park at 8341 De Longpre Ave.
Plans call for re-landscaping the 1-acre park--the former estate of silent screen star William S. Hart--and restoring the late actor’s home. Officials have said they hope the landscaping, including the AIDS memorial, can be completed by August.
