Roundup : Freshman Pitches Valley to Fifth Consecutive Win

Dean Money became the fifth Valley College pitcher to record a win as the Monarch staff continued its impressive early performance in a 9-1 victory over Victor Valley in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Valley.

Valley (5-0) has allowed eight earned runs this season.

“We’re real happy with the depth of our pitching staff,” Valley Coach Chris Johnson said.

Money, a freshman from Burbank High, struck out three and walked none.

In other college baseball games:

Pierce 10, L.A. City--Pete Dragaloski scattered seven hits and struck out one in 6 2/3 innings as visiting Pierce began the season with a nonconference win. Billy Morris was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored for Pierce.

Ventura 12, Mission 4--Robert Bradford hit a solo home run for Mission but the Free Spirits fell to 0-4 with the nonconference loss.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Fresno Pacific 90, Cal Lutheran 65--Fresno Pacific parlayed a 54-point second half into a Golden State Athletic Conference victory at home. Juniors Heidi Griffith (14 points) and Brenda Lee (13) led Cal Lutheran (6-17, 3-6).

Occidental 67, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 54--Occidental won its third consecutive game behind an 18-point performance by junior guard Sharon Bruner.

COLLEGE GOLF

Cal State Northridge carded a 1,196 to finish second to Cal State Stanislaus (1,147) in the UC Davis Invitational at Silverado Country Club in Napa.

Tim Hogart shot 236 to finish eighth and lead Northridge (5-1) in the three-round, six-team tournament.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Fresno Pacific 78, Cal Lutheran 66--Steve deLaveaga scored a game-high 31 points--his 79th consecutive game in double figures--for Cal Lutheran (9-16, 2-8) in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Fresno Pacific.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Eagle Rock 82, Verdugo Hills 52--Michael Epps scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Eagles in a Northeastern League game at Eagle Rock. Eagle Rock tied for second place with Franklin.

Franklin 78, Sherman Oaks CES 61--Marcus Littlejohn had 42 points and 18 rebounds in a losing effort for Sherman Oaks CES in a Northeastern League game at Sherman Oaks CES.
