Two men were being held in County Jail Wednesday after one pointed a handgun with his finger on the trigger at two San Diego police officers answering a burglary call in Southeast San Diego, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Alejandro Origel, 26, was being held on suspicion of displaying a handgun in a threatening manner, possession of a hypodermic needle and being under the influence of a controlled substance, Robinson said.
Jaime Gonzalez, 21, was being held on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, Robinson said.
The confrontation occurred when the two men were questioned by officers answering a burglary call in the 3800 block of Logan Avenue.
The officers, Kathleen Finn and Spencer Stern, questioned the pair at 9:40 a.m. When the officers came near the two, Origel turned and wielded a .38-caliber handgun, pointing it at Stern and Finn, Robinson said.
Both officers pulled out their service revolvers but did not fire. They talked Origel into surrendering his gun without firing it, Robinson said.
