Southern Section Girls’ Basketball Playoffs : Wilson Gathers 22 Points as Hart Advances on Historic Evening, 62-35

The Hart High girls’ basketball team, ranked second in the Southern Section 5-A Division, won its first-ever playoff game, 62-35, Saturday night in a second-round match-up over visiting Norco.

Six-foot-three-inch forward Sara Wilson scored a game-high 22 points, 14 in the second half, and pulled down 12 rebounds for Hart, which recorded its 12th consecutive victory.

The Indians led, 26-17, at intermission and extended their advantage to 41-22 with 1:31 remaining in the third quarter by posting a 15-5 run, during which Wilson contributed eight points.

Hart widened the margin again to 57-28 in the final period, erupting for a 12-4 run, sparked by Wilson and guard Anjanette Dione, who each scored four points. Dione finished with 16 points.

In another second-round 5-A game:

Thousand Oaks 68, Edison 53--Thousand Oaks made 26 of 37 free throws, including 12 of 18 in the fourth quarter of the game at Thousand Oaks.

Shani Smyth and Amy Chandler each scored 22 points for Thousand Oaks (23-4) and teammate Michelle Palmisano added 17.

Thousand Oaks broke the game open by outscoring Edison, 19-11, in the third quarter.

5-AA DIVISION

Simi Valley 76, El Toro 58--Keira Irwin scored 14 points, handed out nine assists and grabbed six rebounds to help Simi Valley past the South Coast Conference runner-up at Simi Valley.

The Pioneers ran off to a 19-9 lead in the first period and were never really threatened.

Shannon Solway led all scorers with 25 points for Simi Valley.

3-A DIVISION

Alemany 55, Lompoc 51--Andrea Hoffman sank a basket with 43 seconds to play to give the Indians a two-point lead in the game at Lompoc.

Hoffman scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Anne Sasadeusz added 14 points and Sylvia Castaneda had 10 points for Alemany (19-5).

2-A DIVISION

La Reina 64, Regina Caeli 42--Amy Alarian scored a team-high 15 points and Heather Freeman added 14 points for the host Regents.

After a close first quarter, the Regents (20-5) outscored Regina Caeli, 28-18, in the next two quarters to take a 42-30 lead.

1-A DIVISION

La Sierra Academy 46, Montclair Prep 39--The Mounties had only six points in the first quarter and trailed throughout the game at Montclair Prep. Nikki Smith led the Mounties with a game-high 20 points and had 21 rebounds.

Silver Valley 50, Oakwood 49 (2 OTs)--Nancy Phillips sank a free throw with five seconds left in double overtime to lift the Trojans at Oakwood.

Bishop Diego 54, L.A. Baptist 34--The Knights had 22 turnovers and were outscored in every quarter of the game at L.A. Baptist.
