The body of a man in his early 20s was found Monday in an El Toro motel, but a cause of death was not immediately determined pending an autopsy today, authorities said.

A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said the victim appeared to have suffered a head wound, but it was not known if that had caused his death. The case is being treated as a possible murder pending further investigation and an autopsy.

Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Abbott said the body was found about 9 a.m. Monday in a room at the Quality Suites Inn in the 23000 block of Lake Center Drive.

Abbott said the man has been tentatively identified, but that a name would not be released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

“Right now we’re treating this as a homicide investigation, but we always treat situations like this as possible homicides until our investigations are complete,” Abbott said.

He said the Sheriff’s Department had no other details of the case it could make public Monday night.
