In a sudden-death round of tie-breaking penalty kicks, forward Andrea Gormican scored the winning goal as Serra defeated Granite Hills, 1-0, in the first round of the San Diego Section 3-A girls’ soccer playoffs.

“I hate to see a game won like that,” Serra Coach Laurie Berger said. “I’d rather have a goal.”

Berger said the game was scoreless in regulation because of missed opportunities.

“Granite Hills played a good tough game but couldn’t score,” Berger said. “They were very aggressive.”
