All 10 players were injured when the bus carrying the Augusta (Ga.) College women’s basketball team to the Big South Conference tournament at Radford, Va., collided with a flatbed truck just inside the South Carolina line.
Also hurt were the student manager, the coach and an assistant coach.
Coach Lowell Barnhart, 56, who was driving the bus, was taken to the Medical College of Georgia, along with players Krysti Boeck, 19; Debbie Grist, 20, and Mary Chavous, 22, a college spokesman said. All four were in fair condition.
The nine others were taken to University Hospital, and the spokesman said, “We’re pretty sure all the players are going to walk away from the hospital. The injuries aren’t as bad as we first had heard.”
