A driver who was apparently angry because another motorist had flashed an obscene gesture sideswiped the offending driver’s car, causing the vehicle to strike the center divider and overturn on the San Diego Freeway shortly before noon Thursday.

Brian Gelinds, 24, of Yorba Linda, was thrown from the car when it rolled over, suffering a separated shoulder and cuts, CHP Officer Mike Lundquist said. Police were searching for the driver of the car that struck Gelinds’ auto, described as an older-model black Chevy or Ford pickup.

According to Lundquist, Gelinds made the hand gesture to a motorist in the lane beside him. Witnesses corroborated Gelinds’ report that the driver deliberately swerved into Gelinds’ car, sending him into the center divider of the highway north of Culver Road. The unidentified driver then exited at the Culver ramp heading westbound.
