Guard Stole $1 Million in Parcels at UPS Depot
A guard hired to patrol two United Parcel Service storage depots admitted he stole thousands of parcels worth as much as $1 million while his co-workers were home at night or on weekends, police said Monday.
John Sackman, 25, of the Pittsburgh suburb of Monroeville, was arrested Friday after company officials, acting on an anonymous tip, recovered a stolen bag of UPS parcels and found a bill inside bearing Sackman’s name. He faces a March 6 hearing on one count each of theft and receiving stolen property.
Among the items Sackman said he stole were about 1,000 pieces of jewelry, videocassette recorders, clothing, medical supplies, eyeglasses and aircraft parts.
