3-A Soccer Semifinals : Torrey Pines Keeps Surprising

Layla Massiroughli scored on a direct free kick from 23 yards with 12 minutes remaining to wake Torrey Pines from its first-half slumber and give the Falcons a 1-0 victory over Bonita Vista Wednesday in the 3-A girls’ soccer semifinal match at San Diego High.

“It was like we took the first half off,” Torrey Pines Coach Dennis Costello said.

Torrey Pines (16-4-2) surprised Costello this season, winning consistently with only three senior starters. The Falcons have three consecutive shutouts in the playoffs.
