Aztecs Complete 3-Game Sweep of Wisconsin

San Diego State University’s baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Wisconsin with an 18-2 victory Monday at Smith Field. The Aztecs (14-10) outscored Wisconsin, 36-4, in the series as the Badgers fell to 3-8.

SDSU, which led, 15-1, after three innings, had 15 hits off four pitchers. Lance Pinnell had two hits, three RBIs and scored three runs and Harry Henderson had two hits, three runs and an RBI.

SDSU’s Eric Plantenberg (nine strikeouts in five innings), Rusty Filter and Kevin Nielsen scattered five hits. Plantenberg picked up his third victory in five decisions.

HORSE RACING

Two players picked all six winners on Pick 6 wagering at the Caliente Border Racebook Sunday, according to racebook manager Eduardo Hernandez. The winners will receive $94,177.20 each.

This is the racebook’s biggest payoff since Winning Colors won last year’s Kentucky Derby.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The University of San Diego (14-4) shut out visiting Washington, 9-0, in a nonconference match.

Tonya Fuller and Sakolwan Kacharoen were straight-set winners in singles. Fuller teamed with Kelley Jewell and Kacharoen with Jill Greenwood for doubles victories.
