Kaplan Leads UC Irvine to Tennis Victory Over Las Vegas
Mark Kaplan of UC Irvine won his 17th consecutive singles match to help UC Irvine defeat Nevada Las Vegas, 7-2, in a Big West Conference men’s tennis match Sunday at Irvine.
Kaplan defeated Eric Aanes, 6-3, 6-2, to improve to 23-5.
Irvine won five of six singles matches to clinch the victory. In singles, Mike Briggs defeated Wick Cannon, 6-1, 7-5, Richard Lubner defeated Crombie Hatfield, 6-3, 6-1, Shige Kanroji defeated Dave Hostalek, 6-1, 6-3, and Aaron Stolpman beat Yuta Tsunoda, 6-2, 6-2, for Irvine (15-6), which is the fourth-ranked team in the nation. Las Vegas is 12-9.
