San Diego State’s offense put up some big numbers in its first football scrimmage of the spring. In 120 plays, the equivalent of 1 1/2 games, the Aztecs passed for 676 yards and rushed for 186.

Despite several dropped passes, quarterbacks Dan McGwire and Brad Platt had big days. McGwire completed 19 of 30 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns, with two interceptions. Platt was 22 of 39 for 311 yards, a touchdown and a interception.

Patrick Rowe led a group of five receivers with seven or more receptions with seven catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns, on a 61-yard pass from McGwire and a 38-yarder from Platt.

At tailback, Darrin Wagner had nine rushes for 56 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown, and Tommy Booker had seven for 47.

Defensive coordinator Barry Lamb was pleased with the run defense and cited the play of backs John Wesselman and Larry Maxey, each of whom had an interception.

Booker aggravated his right hamstring and will miss one to three weeks. Running back Curtis Butts dislocated his left thumb. X-rays will be taken Monday, but Butts is not expected to miss much practice.
