Elster Errorless in 73 Games, a Record
Kevin Elster set a major league record when he played his 73rd consecutive game at shortstop without making an error during the New York Mets’ 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night in New York.
Elster broke the record set by Eddie Brinkman of the Detroit Tigers from May 2 to Aug. 4, 1972. The National League record was 68, set by Buddy Kerr with the New York Giants from July 28, 1946, to May 24, 1947.
Kerr holds the major league mark of fielding 383 straight chances at shortstop without making an error. Brinkman holds the major league record of fielding the most chances in one season without making an error, 331.
