Rob DiMuro, an assistant girls’ basketball coach last season at Alemany High, has been named women’s basketball coach at Pierce College. The school is reviving the program it dropped in 1985 in the wake of Los Angeles Community College District budget cuts.

DiMuro, 24, attended Notre Dame High and was the girls’ varsity basketball coach at his alma mater from 1986-88.

Cal State Northridge has signed three men’s volleyball players and two softball players to letters of intent, the school announced Thursday.

The volleyball players are Chris McGee, a 6-foot-3 setter from Crespi High; Greg Weaver, a 6-1 outside hitter from Chatsworth; and Tim Vincent, a 6-4 outside hitter from Pierce.

Lisa Ferracone, a utility player from Palomar College, and Hart High first baseman Danielle Wood, who had orally committed last week, signed to play softball.

Two all-star basketball games pitting Southern Section players against City Section players are scheduled for tonight at Cal State Northridge. The girls’ game will begin at 6:30 and the boys’ game will follow at 8:30. The games feature 66 of the top high school seniors in the Valley area.

Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students with school identification and $2 for children under 12.

Proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the San Fernando Valley.
