College Baseball Roundup : Pepperdine Powers Past Titans, 14-6

Jalal Leach had three runs batted in as Pepperdine defeated Cal State Fullerton, 14-6, Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game at Fullerton.

Leach had three hits, including a two-run double. He also stole two bases.

Pepperdine (32-13-1) led, 8-5, after six innings and broke the game open with a six-run seventh. Rick Hirtnsteiner and Scott Shockley had run-scoring triples for the Waves.

Hirtnsteiner had three hits and Shockley two RBIs. Jim Doyle had three hits and an RBI for Pepperdine.

Mate Borgogno had three hits and three RBIs for Fullerton (27-19).

Wayne Helm (4-3) went 5 2/3 innings for the victory. Rich Faulkes (2-2) took the loss.

In a nonconference game:

San Diego State 9, UC Irvine 1--Brian Dunn had two hits and three RBIs for San Diego State (30-19) at UC Irvine. Jeff Barry had three hits and an RBI for the Aztecs. Rusty Filter (2-0) pitched two innings in relief for the victory. Brian Young had a solo homer for Irvine (16-28-1).

In the Golden State Athletic Conference:

Westmont 7, Christ College Irvine 1--Greg Lowen had three hits and two RBIs for Westmont (27-13, 15-5) at Christ College Irvine. Rich Ebarb pitched five innings, allowing only three hits, for the victory. Ross Cazazos had a solo home run for Christ College Irvine (6-27-1, 1-15).

Southern California College 6, Point Loma Nazarene 2--Robert Mansfield (5-5) pitched five shutout innings for the victory at Point Loma. Denny Berni had two hits and two RBIs for the Vanguards (24-19, 12-6).
