Collins Captures Scratch Main Event

Phil Collins of Newport Beach won the four-lap scratch main event Friday in the weekly speedway program before a crowd of 3,962 at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Bill Hamill of Monrovia was second, Shawn McConnell of Brea third and Greg Hancock of Costa Mesa fourth.

John Larsen of Costa Mesa won the eight-lap handicap main event. Mike Faria of Riverside was second, Gary Hicks of Glen Avon was third and Brad Oxley of San Clemente fourth.
