College Roundup : CSUN Posts Pair of Wins in Softball Tournament

The Cal State Northridge softball team shut out a pair of opponents in the Cal State Sacramento tournament Friday, beating Portland State, 4-0, and Sonoma State, 5-0.

Lisa Erickson scored five runs in the two games to raise her season total to 59 and break the school record of 57 she established last season.

Junior Debbie Dickmann (27-6) recorded her 17th shutout of the season in the first game, matching her total for each of the past two seasons. Dickmann yielded one walk and four hits and struck out seven.

Lindstrom, a freshman, notched her 12th shutout, struck out five and walked one against Sonoma State (29-28).

Lelani Artis was two for three with a triple and two runs batted in against Portland State (25-20). Pam Smith was two for three with a run scored.

In game two, Leslie Plank was two for three with an RBI and a run scored.

BASEBALL

Chapman 5, CSUN 3--Anton Siegl hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, but the Matadors lost the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. contest at Hart Park in Orange.

Chapman’s David Berg (9-7) pitched a four-hitter, struck out 11 and retired the final 11 batters he faced. Jason Rolish, who led off the game with a solo home run, collected three hits and scored three runs.

Northridge’s Vale Lopez (5-8) gave up three earned runs on eight hits. Ted Weisfuss was two for four to lead the Matadors offensively.

Chapman is 23-25, 10-15 in conference play; Northridge fell to 27-17-1, 13-11-1.
