THE PREPS : Southern Section Playoffs : Buena Park, Estancia Top Badminton Seeds

Buena Park and Estancia high schools want to settle something.

But the badminton teams with identical 16-0 records will have to wait until the Southern Section 4-A final May 25 to determine which is better. The Southern Section announced its pairings Monday, and Buena Park was seeded No. 1 and Estancia No. 2.

Before making any plans for the big date, Buena Park will meet first-round opponent Westminster Thursday and on the same day, Estancia meets the winner of today’s wild-card match between Kennedy and Los Altos.

In today’s other 4-A wild-card matches, Corona del Mar is at Troy, Bolsa Grande is at Palm Springs and Huntington Beach is at Colton.

In other 4-A first-round matches Thursday: third-seeded Nogales plays host to the winner of Corona del Mar/Troy; No. 4 Garden Grove, the first-place team in the Garden Grove League, plays host to the winner of Huntington Beach/Colton; Rowland plays host to the winner of Bolsa Grande/Palm Springs; Saddleback is at Alhambra and La Habra is at Fountain Valley.

In today’s 3-A wild-card matches, Lakewood is at Magnolia.

In other 3-A first-round matches Thursday: No. 4 Katella, the first-place team in the Empire League, plays host to the winner of Etiwanda/El Monte; No. 3 Covina plays host to the winner of Magnolia/Lakewood, and Bonita is at Loara.
