USDHS 2, University City 1--Gavin Millay singled with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to drive in Jeff DesJardins with the winning run to lead No. 5 USDHS (18-4, 9-2). DesJardins walked and stole second to set up Millay’s single. University City is 7-15, 5-7.

La Jolla 6, Kearny 5--La Jolla scored five runs in the second for a 6-0 lead and then hung on for the victory at Kearny (4-19, 2-10). Gary Frank was two for three and scored twice and Robert Grasso was two for five with three RBIs for La Jolla (5-18, 2-11).

City Eastern League

Mira Mesa 6, Patrick Henry 0--Eric Martinez struck out 17 and held host Patrick Henry to one hit as the eighth-ranked Marauders broke a two-game losing streak. Mike Bovee had a triple and two RBIs for Mira Mesa (19-4, 11-2). Patrick Henry is 16-10 and 9-4. Martinez’ 17 strikeouts ties him with eight others for fourth on the section all-time list.

Madison 5, Morse 2--Al Mandiola went four for four with two home runs and two RBIs for Madison (18-6, 10-3). Matt Lee (8-2) was the winner. Morse dropped to 11-13, 5-8.

Point Loma 14, Serra 1--Bob Simoneau went four for four with four RBIs for Point Loma (6-19, 2-11). Mel Shanley (4-5) held Serra (6-17, 2-11) to three hits.

Grossmont 3-A League

El Capitan 7, Granite Hills 6--Dan Freeman, who had not hit a home run since he was 12, had a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th to give El Capitan a 6-6 tie. Sixth-ranked El Capitan (16-6, 5-1) then scored with two outs in the bottom of the 12th on a single by Zak Salmon. Robert Guerrero had a three-run homer for El Capitan. John Fenn hit a two-run homer for Granite Hills (14-10, 3-4).

City Central League

Crawford 12, Hoover 2--Jeff Thrift hit a two-run homer in the third for Crawford (20-4, 12-1). A.J. Leighton (8-2) was the winner, striking out 11, and went three for four with a double and an RBI. Felipe Preciado hit a two-run homer for Hoover (13-10-1, 8-5).

Lincoln 11, Christian 10--Monte Smith hit a two-out, bases-loaded single to win the game for Lincoln (4-16, 2-10). Teammate Donald Anderson went three for five with two stolen bases and three runs scored. Christian dropped to 6-14, 4-9.

St. Augustine 7, San Diego 0--Brad Genarro and Mike Fuson combined on a six-hitter to lead St. Augustine (13-11, 8-5) at San Diego (10-11-1, 5-8). St. Augustine took advantage of three errors and six walks by San Diego.

Nonleague

Helix 9, Grossmont 1--Rich Haar hit a two-run double for Helix (18-5). Teammate Damon Chase went two for two with an RBI. Danny Lennon hit a home run for Grossmont (13-8).

Santana 10, Monte Vista 3--Kyle Sebach hit a two-run homer in the fifth, and Tom Weinbrecht capped the game with a three-run homer in the seventh for Santana (14-8). Monte Vista dropped to 15-7-2.
