Booker Is Perfect Again; Beamer Has 22 Strikeouts

Madison High School’s Jennifer Booker pitched her fourth consecutive no-hitter and her second consecutive perfect game as Madison defeated visiting Serra, 13-0, Tuesday.

Booker also tied Castle Park’s Dawn Wood (1988) for most no-hitters in a season (four) and for most consecutive perfect games in the San Diego Section--Wood pitched two in a row in 1988.

The fourth consecutive no-hitter also breaks the previous section record of three consecutive no-hitters shared by Bonita Vista’s Sandy Miramontes (1979), Hilltop’s Karen Gaines (1981) and Madison’s Kristie Skoglund (1981).

“I was nervous because a lot of people were talking about it, but I knew I had to keep a good attitude,” said Booker, who struck out 13. “I had to win for the team--I wasn’t going out there for myself.”

Booker, 9-2, was helped by third baseman Kim Lester, who stopped a couple of hard ground balls.

“It was a good game,” Booker said. “The defense really backed me up. Everything went smoothly.”

Booker threw a perfect game at Morse last week, and had previously pitched no-hitters against Mira Mesa and Serra.

“She’s a great little pitcher,” Serra coach Carl Robbins said. “In 23 games this year, she’s the best we’ve faced.”

Wil Beamer (12-2) of Parker set a San Diego Section record with 22 strikeouts in 12 innings as Parker defeated Julian, 2-1.

Beamer, who didn’t allow a walk, broke Terry O’Dell’s record of 21 strikeouts. O’Dell set the record in 1987 while pitching for Victory Christian.

Tom Tobin hit a bases-loaded single to drive in the winning run in the 12th inning for Parker (16-6, 11-0). Julian dropped to 5-6.
