In other playoff games:

San Fernando 1, Sylmar 0--Denise Mendoza scattered four hits and Blanca Alcala singled in the only run in the fourth inning as visiting San Fernando advanced to the City 4-A semifinals.

San Fernando (17-9), which shared the North Valley League title with Kennedy and Granada Hills, managed just two hits off Sylmar sophomore Sylvia Bustamente.

Banning 6, Kennedy 2--Erin Beattie scored on a single by Cathy Miyarira and Flavia Fleischer scored on a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth inning for the Golden Cougars’ only runs.

Kennedy stranded eight baserunners and committed three errors in the third as Banning scored four runs--three unearned--in the City 4-A quarterfinal.

Poly 12, Roosevelt 4--Trailing, 4-2, in the fifth inning, Poly scored two runs on a bases-loaded single by sophomore catcher Kristie Faehnle and went on to win the City 3-A quarterfinal game at Poly.

The Parrots (18-2) scored eight runs in the sixth to blow the game open. Faehnle finished two for three with three RBIs.

Burroughs 4, Arcadia 1--Dana Smock pitched a two-hitter, struck out eight and walked five for Burroughs in the Southern Section 4-A Division wild-card playoff game at Arcadia.
