After losing in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament late Thursday, San Diego State came back on Friday to trounce Wyoming, 8-3, setting up a semifinal late Friday against the loser of the game between Hawaii and Brigham Young. San Diego State pitcher Rob Brown (10-5) went the distance against the Cowboys and allowed two earned runs, both in the eighth on a pop fly that caused confusion in the infield and dropped for a base hit.

Brown struck out six to move his school-record season total to 122.

The Aztecs (37-24) took a commanding lead in the third with five runs on a walk, two infield errors and four hits.

After the walk and errors scored a run, SDSU’s Harry Henderson, Eric Christopherson and Billy Miller followed with RBI singles off Wyoming starter Travis Teegarden. The fifth run scored on a double-play ball.

The Aztecs scored two more in the fourth on Jeff Barry’s RBI single and another double play.

In the first round Thursday, SDSU, which finished second in the regular season, dropped a 6-5 game to Hawaii, which finished third. The Aztecs rallied for one ninth-inning run, then left two runners on base as both Stan Kwan and Henderson grounded out.

If the Aztecs won their game late Friday, they will play for the championship of the double-elimination tournament today.
