Northridge Pair Named to Softball All-American Team

Debbie Dickmann and Lisa Erickson of Cal State Northridge were first-team selections on the NCAA Division II All-American softball team announced Friday.

Dickmann, a junior pitcher from Newbury Park High, made the first team for the third consecutive season. Erickson, a junior outfielder from Crescenta Valley, was chosen for the second time. The Lady Matadors’ Char Schmitt, a senior catcher from La Palma, Calif., was named to the second team.

Dickmann won 30 of 36 decisions--19 by shutout--and had three saves and an 0.48 earned-run average. Erickson batted .459 with a school-record 113 hits and had an on-base percentage of .528. She also stole 44 bases in 48 attempts.

Schmitt, who transferred to CSUN from Arizona State, batted .358 and threw out 12 of 27 runners attempting to steal. Schmitt, Dickmann and Erickson are also first-team All-West selections.

First baseman Pam Smith and shortstop Anna Getherall of CSUN were second-team All-West picks.
