Junior right-hander Rob Croxall pitched a three-hitter to lead El Segundo past Orange Lutheran, 3-0, Tuesday in the second round of the CIF 2-A baseball playoffs. Croxall, the Eagles’ No. 2 starter, improved to 6-4.

Freshman shortstop Grant Hohman hit a two-run, ninth-inning home run Tuesday to lift St. Bernard over Agoura, 6-4, in a second-round game of the CIF 2-A playoffs. Hohman has four hits in seven at-bats in the playoffs.

Laura Ainsworth placed first in two events and ran on two winning relays Saturday to help the El Camino College women’s track team capture its second state title. The sophomore won the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles and ran anchor legs on the 400 and 1,600 relays.

Torrance’s doubles team of Aung Htut and Thomas Poppinsieker advanced to Friday’s CIF 4-A individual tennis finals.

Five Hawthorne pitchers surrendered a total of 14 hits and the Cougars committed five errors Tuesday in a 14-4 loss to top-seeded Lakewood in the second round of the CIF 5-A baseball playoffs.

Mary Star pitcher Rick Ibarra, whose earned-run average was below 1.00 in six previous starts, gave up four hits and six runs in 2 1/3 innings Tuesday as the Stars fell to Morro Bay, 9-8, in the CIF 2-A playoffs.

Redondo’s baseball team ended the season on a sour note Friday in the first round of the CIF 5-A playoffs. Three Sea Hawk pitchers allowed a total of 17 hits and the team committed four errors in a 17-2 loss to Riverside Poly.

North Torrance third baseman John Clem committed three errors in the Saxons’ 11-0 loss to Newbury Park in a CIF 5-A playoff opener.
