In other 2-A quarterfinal games:

Rancho Buena Vista 13, Mission Bay 6--The unranked Longhorns booted the county’s No. 2-ranked team and the defending 2-A champion out of the playoffs.

“Our weakness was found out today, and I’ve known about it for a long time,” said Mission Bay Coach Dennis Pugh. “Pitching. They just hit everything we threw at them today. They did a good job.”

Pitching a weakness? It was only Tony Lennan’s second loss (11 victories). Rancho Buena Vista’s Donovan Crocker improved to 6-4, and Jason Robirds had the game’s only home run, a three-run blast in the fourth.
