Camarillo Doubles Team Falls in Southern Section Final

Rob Atkin and Doug Scheulin of Corona del Mar High defeated top-seeded Peter Moraweicki and Brian Giffin of Camarillo, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2 in a tiebreaker), in the boys’ Southern Section doubles tennis finals Saturday at Seacliff Tennis Club in Huntington Beach.

Moraweicki and Giffin, who had not lost a doubles match all season, beat Atkin and Scheulin in three sets a month ago en route to the Ojai Valley tournament championship in the high school doubles division.

“They realized that everyone was pretty much set to knock them off,” Camarillo Coach Lee Talley said. “You’d call it a high-vibes day for Corona. (Corona) was on a mission and you just had to take your hats off to them.”

Moraweicki, a senior who transfered from Clairemont High in San Diego last fall, will attend Texas El Paso on a tennis scholarship next fall.
