Anaheim Neighbor Finds Bodies of Young Couple
A man and a woman in their early 20s were found dead in their Anaheim apartment Wednesday afternoon by a neighbor who became concerned when one of the woman’s two young children wandered to her apartment, Anaheim police said.
The couple, who had not been officially identified by police, may have died from gunshot wounds, but Police Lt. Mark Hedgepeth said the matter is still under investigation.
“We can’t even say they died from gunshot wounds,” he said. “Because of the positions of the body, we can’t say for sure--but there was definitely blood.”
He said police did not find any murder weapon in the apartment on the 700 block of South Knott Avenue.
Hedgepeth said police found the bodies about 1 p.m. when they answered a call on a possible homicide.
“Apparently, there were a couple of little children in there and one of them came over to the neighbor’s,” Hedgepeth said. “That caused the neighbor to have concern and (the neighbor) went over and checked the apartment and found the couple, and then called us.
“There was no indication that they (the children) were injured,” he said.
The children are now with relatives of the dead woman, Hedgepeth said.
Hedgepeth said one body was found in the living room and the other in the bedroom. No signs of a struggle were evident.
Hedgepeth said the incident was probably not a murder-suicide.
“We haven’t ruled anything out,” he said.
Neighbors said the man was the woman’s boyfriend, and that the two children were hers.
The discovery was made at an apartment complex that residents say is mostly inhabited by young people.
“It’s a nonstop party zone,” said resident Andy Metzger, 18.
“This place doesn’t go to sleep,” said another neighbor who declined to give his name. “There’s always somebody up. There’s always somebody partying.”
