BEST BITES : Menus Spring Up for Asparagus Lovers

The words asparagus and spring both come from the same Greek root. So before spring departs, taking the asparagus season with it, you’ll want to get some of the spears that are springing up on menus all over town.

Downtown Chez Francois (open only for lunch), is serving a special green asparagus menu that includes such dishes as chilled asparagus vichyssoise and asparagus flan. In Santa Monica, Knoll’s Black Forest Inn is offering fresh white asparagus flown in from Europe and prepared in a variety of ways (including a simple serving topped with melted butter). And if you can’t decide whether you want the green kind or the white, try the special menu at Rockenwagner in Venice, which features both.
