Raids Yield $9 Million in Cocaine, 6 Arrests
Six Colombian nationals were arrested and $9 million worth of cocaine was seized during raids at five locations in Yorba Linda, Diamond Bar and Rowland Heights on Wednesday night.
Concluding a four-month investigation, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by U.S. Customs agents and Montebello police, seized 30 kilos of cocaine as well as $300,000 in U.S. currency, six vehicles and four cellular telephones during the raids, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
Deputy Dan Cox of the sheriff’s information bureau said Luis Velasquez, 36; Carlos Arbelez, 37; Carlos Franco, 31; Juan Herrera, 24; George Cadavid, 27, and Antonio Franco, 66, were booked on suspicion of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Cox said he did not know the men’s cities of residence.
The arrests were made without incident as officials served narcotics search warrants about 9:45 p.m., Cox said, and the six were booked into Los Angeles County Jail on $1 million bail each.
